CredAbility, a national nonprofit credit counseling agency, has been selected by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to accept applications from homeowners in 17 states for the new Emergency Homeowners’ Loan Program (EHLP). This program will provide $1 billion to help an estimated 30,000 homeowners in 27 states and Puerto Rico avoid foreclosure. Homeowners can contact CredAbility today at www.CredAbility.org, or by calling 800.984.0979 to begin the qualification process. Applications will be available soon and will be accepted until July 22.
Consumers on CredAbility’s Debt Management Plans Repay Record Amount in 2010, Tuesday, April 26, 2011
Consumers are using Debt Management Plans more than ever to get back on their feet financially.
CredAbility reports that in 2010, 27,818 consumers participated in its Debt Management Plans (DMP) and paid back more than $122 million to their creditors. The $122 million is a record for the 47-year-old nonprofit credit counseling organization, and a three percent increase from the $118 million paid back in 2009.

CredAbility today announced that it will move its downtown Atlanta headquarters to 270 Peachtree Street by Jan. 1, 2011. The national nonprofit credit counseling and education organization, which now has its headquarters in the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta building at 100 Edgewood Avenue, has signed a 10-year lease to occupy three floors in the building.

The Index, a quarterly measure that tracks the financial condition of the average U.S. household, finds that high levels of unemployment and the strain of housing costs continue to keep consumers mired in financial distress. But consumers’ net worth has increased for the past five quarters as they continue to pay down debt and, in some parts of the country, benefit from stabilizing housing prices.
